Lambright, Freeman M.
August 20, 1944 - August 30, 2019
Freeman M. Lambright, 75, of Topeka, passed away peacefully at his residence, while surrounded by his family, at 7:08 pm on Friday, August 30, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on August 20, 1944 in LaGrange County to Milton J. and Anna M. (Hochstetler) Lambright. On October 7, 1971 in Goshen he married Ada Troyer, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are daughter, Jenean (Cletus) Wingard of Topeka; six sons, Darryl (Waneta) Lambright of Topeka, Duane (Jolene) Lambright of Shipshewana, Jason (Doris) Lambright of Topeka, Kevin (Angela) Lambright of Hudson, Atlee Lambright of Topeka, Freeman, Jr. (Dora) Lambright of Topeka; 24 grandchildren; a brother, Chris (Fanny May) Lambright of Topeka; three sisters, Ramah (Chris) Slabach of Shipshewana, Wilma (Freeman) Frey of Middlebury, Nettie Glick of Shipshewana; brother-in-law, Ervin Bontrager of Millersburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn granddaughter; sister, Irene Bontrager and a brother-in-law, Freeman Glick.
Freeman was a retired farmer and member of the Old Order Amish Church which he was ordained as a minister in 1980 and then as a Bishop in 1983; he was currently the Senior Bishop.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 31, and all day Sunday, September 1, at family residence, 2835 S. 500 W. Topeka. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Monday, September 2, also at the family's residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Chris Lambright, Jr. and the home ministers. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, LaGrange.
Lambright, Norma Jean Gingerich
March 18, 1954 - July 22, 2019
Norma Jean Lambright, 65, of Shipshewana, died at 11:45 pm on Monday, July 22 at her residence. She was born on March 18, 1954 in Shipshewana, to Ezra J. and Mary Ellen (Miller) Gingerich. On April 20, 1973 in Shipshewana, she married Perry H. Lambright; he survives.
Survivors in addition to her husband are three sons, Steven (Sara) Lambright, James (Marla) Lambright, Mark (Leora) Lambright all of Shipshewana; two daughters, Mary (Stanley) Miller, Rhoda (Vernon) Lambright both of Shipshewana; 30 grandchildren; two brothers, Dean (Laura) Gingerich of Middlebury, Marvin (Vera) Gingerich of Shipshewana; sister, Marlene (Wilbur) Mast of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Aaron Lee Lambright. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Tuesday, July 23 and all day Wednesday, July 24 at the family residence, 4865 W. 300 N., Shipshewana. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Thursday, July 25 also at the family residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Jacob Jones and the home ministers. Burial will be in East Barren Cemetery, Shipshewana.
Lambright, Wilbur R.
February 20, 1931 - September 18, 2019
Wilbur R. Lambright, 88, of Shipshewana, died at 4:30 am on Wednesday, September 18 at his residence. He was born on February 20, 1931 in LaGrange County, to Edward J. and Polly (Slabach) Lambright. On December 11, 1952 in LaGrange County, he married Wilma Carolyn Lehman; she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are five sons, Larry (Ruth) Lambright of Shipshewana, Glen (Pam) Lambright of Elkhart, Mervin (Denise) Lambright, Wilbur Jr. (Nanette) Lambright both of Goshen, Calvin (Marlene) Lambright of Shipshewana; daughter, Marilyn (Mervin) Wingard of Shipshewana; 25 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Kathryn Lambright of Shipshewana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward Jr. Lambright. He was a farmer and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 19 and all day Friday, September 20 at the family residence, 0635 N. 1000 W., Shipshewana. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 21 also at the family residence. Services will be conducted by Bishop Wilbur Miller and the home ministers. Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery, Shipshewana.
Landis, Alvin B.
Sept. 7, 1939 - Oct. 3, 2019
Alvin B. Landis, age 80, beloved husband of Ruth M. Landis, passed peacefully into his eternal rest on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at his home in Fleming County, KY.
Born in Union Township, Snyder County, PA on September 7, 1939, he was a son of the late Paul and Amanda Brubacker Landis.
Alvin lived his life for the Lord and was a faithful member of the Mt. Carmel Bible Fellowship Church. His fascination with history made him the family historian. Alvin had a loving heart for everyone and never knew a stranger. He also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Alvin was the business owner of Swiss American Homes of Kentucky with business locations in Missouri as well. He was a former assistant prison Chaplain in West Liberty where he ministered to many inmates. Alvin had a love and gift for horticulture, growing and nurturing beautiful flowers around his home as well as planting trees.
Besides his wife, he is survived by: his nine children, Anna Mae (James) Kurtz of Harrodsburg, KY, Edwin M. (Ruth) Landis of Hummelstown, PA, Alvin B. (Mary) Landis, Jr. of Clymer, PA, Susan L. (Tim) Miller of Flemingsburg, KY, Wilma L. (Nelson) Bates of Advance, MO, Paul M. (Sierica) Landis of Shedd, OR, Lois M. (Dave) Miller of Georgetown, OH, Ruth Marie Landis of Afton, TN, and Miriam Ann Landis of Richland, PA; 34 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Lucy Nolt, Annie (Melvin) Gehman, Paul (Ella Mae) Landis, and Warren (Darla) Landis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, John Landis; and grandchildren, Randall Dean Miller, and Amy Lynette Kurtz.
A viewing will be held on Monday, October 7, 2019, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center, 352 Martindale Road, Ephrata. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at 8:45 AM at the Martindale Mennonite Fellowship Center with further services at 9:30 AM from the Stauffer Mennonite Church, Earl Township with Pastor Ben Peachey officiating. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.

Landis, Anna Godshall, 90, of Harleysville, Montgomery Co., PA died November 24, 2019 at the same place. She was born August 21, 1929 at Franconia, Montgomery Co., PA to Jonathan B. and Mamie G. (Metz) Godshall. On March 25, 1951 she was married to Clyde Derstine Landis, who was born July 7, 1930 and died July 14, 2017.
Surviving are children, Jolene Landis; Nancy Gaugler (George); and Bradley (Kristen) Landis; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and siblings Miriam Detwiler, Verna Mae Detweiler, and Linnaeus Godshall.
Brothers and sisters, Eve Greaser, Jonathan Newton Godshall, Willard Godshall, Ernest Godshall, and Stanley Godshall preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held December 1, 2019 at Salford Mennonite Church, Harleysville, PA with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Landis, Doris M. Esbenshade, 81, of State Street, Manheim, PA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, PA.
She and her husband, John L. Landis celebrated 58 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late J. Ross and Stella Nolt Esbenshade.
Doris assisted her husband on their farm in East Hempfield Township as well as their mulch business known as Landyshade Mulch Products, where she enjoyed waiting on their customers.
She was a long time member of East Petersburg Mennonite Church and Farm Women Society #26.
Doris enjoyed her home, especially working in the yard and doing her own interior decorating. She was active with her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling, going to the mountains and the beach. She was also an enthusiastic gift giver to family and friends.
Surviving beside her husband John is a son John E. husband of Lori Landis of Lancaster; 5 grandchildren, David A. Dise, Elana J. Dise, Emily Landis, twins Jack and Sarah Landis, Domenic Godshall; son-in-law Allen and his wife Julie Dise of Lititz; 2 sisters, Evelyn M. wife of George M. Rohrer of Lancaster, and Erma Hollinger of Mt. Joy.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Lucinda L. Dise and granddaughter Elissa Dise.
A celebration of life service will be held at Hempfield Church of the Brethren, 1186 Stevens Street, Manheim, PA on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 4:00PM with Pastor Allen D. Dise officiating. An informal visitation/reception will be held following the service. Traditional interment will be at the convenience of the family in East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery.

Landis, Larry H., 70, of Middlebury Center, PA died August 12, 2019. He was born April 16, 1949 to Henry and Doris (Halteman) Landis. On November 9, 1974 he was married to Beverly Landis, who is deceased.
Surviving are children, Bradley and Kim Landis; Amy and Jason Stefanowicz; three grandchildren, and a brother, Glen and Laureen Landis.

May 31, 1935-December 12, 2019
Mark L. Landis, 84, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, journeyed to his heavenly home on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, from his home in Harrisonburg, where he and his wife, Elizabeth (Godshall) Landis, have lived for the past 23 years.
Born May 31, 1935, in Harleysville Pa., he was the son of the late Dayton and Mattie Landis.
Mark was an electrician by trade but his passion was serving the Lord. He felt called to the ministry as a young man and at age 20, he, along with his wife, moved from Pennsylania to Hickory, N.C. to help with a church planting. He continued with his electrical work establishing Efficiency Electric Inc. with his wife, Elizabeth, while also pastoring at Hickory Mennonite Church. After 36 years in Hickory, Mark and Liz moved to Asheville, N.C., where he pastored Asheville Mennonite church for nine years. More recently, Mark was associate pastor at Grace Mennonite Fellowship until his retirement at the age of 80.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children, Daryl Landis, married to Anne Decker, of Chevy Chase, Md., and Joy Clymer, married to Leonard Clymer, of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren, Stuart Landis, Sara Landis, Jake Landis, Caroline Clymer, and Victoria Lorenzana, and great-granddaughter, Sophia Lorenzana.
Additional family members include Glenda Cubbage, married to Matt Cubbage, of Hickory, N.C., Joanne Miller, married to Larry Miller, of Bowersville, Ga., Rose Chit Khin, married to Michael Chit Khin, of Newton, N.C., Sharon Fernandez of Knoxville, Tenn., and Drema Harrison, married to Rick Harrison, of Roan Mountain, Tenn. Also surviving are two siblings, Mary Landis Leatherman of Doylestown, Pa. and Stanton Landis of Harleysville, Pa.
He was preceded in death by family members, Sandy Moyer, married to Vernon Moyer, of Hickory, N.C. and Peggy Chapman, married to Rick Chapman, of Conover, N.C. Also, siblings, Heber Landis, Minerva Landis Godshall, Henry Landis, Floyd Landis, and Dayton Landis, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Mennonite Fellowship, 209 Lacey Spring Road, Harrisonburg, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grace Mennonite Fellowship.

Lapp, Dan J., 90, of Plain City, Madison Co., OH died March 21, 2019 at the same place after a lengthy illness. He was born August 13, 1928 at Plain City, OH to John and Sarah (Yoder) Lapp. On April 26 1952 at Plain City he was married to Mary E. Miller, who was born June 1, 1933 and died September 7, 2016.
Surviving are children, Rob Lapp; Kathy (Carl) Phillips; and Sherry (Michael) Lowe; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Simon (late Helen) Lapp; Henry (Orpha) Lapp; Roman (Nancy) Lapp; John Lapp Jr.; Dorothy (Ervin) Yutzy; and Gertrude (Norman) Detweiler.
A brother, LeeRoy Lapp preceded him in death.
He grew up farming and was involved in carpentry all his life. Dan was a member of Sharon Mennonite Church. He enjoyed fishing and collected tiny toy trains. He was known to many as "the clock man." He collected, repaired and tinkered with all types of clocks, especially enjoying grandfather clocks.
Memorial services were held March 26, 2019 at Sharon Mennonite Church, Plain City, OH with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Layman, Susan Ann Brubaker
October 19, 1950 - November 2, 2019
Susan Ann Brubaker Layman, 69, of Harrisonburg, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at her home.
Mrs. Layman was born Oct. 19, 1950, in Alexandria, Va., and was a daughter of late Elias and Mary Hazel (Sykes) Brubaker. She came to Harrisonburg to attend Madison College, where she met her husband. After time spent in Durham, N.C., Memphis, Tenn., and Cedar Campus, Mich., they moved back to the Valley to raise their family.
Susan was part of her church small group for over 30 years and was an active supporter of missions and Bible translations. She previous served on the Board of Directors for Mercy House and volunteered at the hospital. She retired from Montevideo Middle School where she was a sixth grade teacher. Susan was also previously a Sunday school teacher at Beldor Mennonite Church and was an active member of the Ladies Group at both Beldor and Weavers Mennonite Churches. Susan loved to knit, sew, quilt, and prepare Sunday dinners for her family.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Eldon F. Layman; son, Daniel Layman (Margaret); daughter, Stephanie Layman; sisters, Phyllis Gardner, Sandra Brubaker; grandchildren, Kateri Layman, Bartholomew Layman, Thomas Layman, and a granddaughter due in March.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at Weavers Mennonite Church with Pastor James Akerson officiating. Burial will follow at Weavers Mennonite Cemetery.
The family will receive friends between 5 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Leakey, Anna Stahl
November 30, 1928 - May 20, 2019
Anna Stahl Leakey, 90, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 20, 2019, at Mountain View Nursing Home in Aroda, Va.
Anna was born on Nov. 30, 1928, in Lewistown, Pa., to Dewey and Mary Brubaker Stahl. In 1941, her family moved to Harrisonburg, Va., where she spent most of her life.
In 1956, she married Bill Leakey, who preceded her in death in September 1991.
Surviving are her son, Michael Leakey and wife, Joyce, of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Andrew Leakey, wife, Sabrina Sumner, and Erin Baker, husband, Justin; and three great-grandchildren, Austin and Lucas Leakey and Finley Baker. She is also survived by one brother, Jacob Stahl, of Lititz, Pa.
In addition to her husband, Anna was preceded in death by two sons, James Donald Leakey and Joseph Kenneth Leakey; three brothers, Omar Stahl, Milo Stahl, and John Stahl; and one sister, Sara Kreider.
Anna had a career in nursing for 40 years. She enjoyed telling stories about her time as a nurse. Anna was also a bird enthusiast. She spent time collecting birds and watching them outside. She also enjoyed spending time with little children.
A memorial service will be held at Lindale Mennonite Church on June 15, 2019, at 11 a.m.

Leaman, Paul Groff, 87, died November 22, 2019 at Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA. He was born August 29, 1932 at Witmer, Lancaster Co., PA to Sanford and Mary (Groff) Leaman. On September 5, 1953 at New Danville, Lancaster Co., PA he was married to Erma Lois Groff, who survives.
Surviving are children, Jay M. Leaman, married to Judy (Kauffman), of Harrisonburg, VA; Carl E. Leaman, married to Charlene (Slagel), of Leola, PA; Stephen R. Leaman, married to Doris (Weaver), of Harrisonburg, VA; Naomi Jean, married to Jay L. Weaver, of Reinholds, PA; and Paul G. Leaman, married to Mary (Horst), of Harrisonburg, VA; 11 grandchildren, two sisters, Ruth Nissley and Irene Shenk, and a brother, Sanford Leaman.
His siblings, Anna Geib, Chester Leaman, Miriam Segerstrom, and Daniel Leaman preceded him in death.
They were married on September 5, 1953 at the New Danville Mennonite Church. Shortly after marriage, Pastor Paul was ordained at the Oakwood Mennonite Church, Oakwood, MD and also served at Poarch Community Church, Atmore, AL.
A self-employed Carpenter and Mennonite Pastor, he worked in Development and Recruitment at Eastern Mennonite High School, Harrisonburg, VA from 1974-1976. In Lancaster, Pastor Paul was a Long-term Care/ Nursing Home Administrator and CEO of the Mennonite Home, from 1976-1997. From 1998 -2006, was Part-time at Bahia Vista Mennonite Church, Sarasota, FL as Pastoral Staff.

Memorial services were held November 29, 2019 at Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel, Lititz, PA with burial in New Danville Mennonite Cemetery, New Danville, PA.

Lehman, Harold Daniel
Jan. 26, 1921 - Aug. 25, 2019
Harold Daniel Lehman, 98, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at Yoder House, Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. He was preceded in death in 2012 by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Krady Lehman.
Harold was born Jan. 26, 1921, in Millersville, Pa., and was the son of the late Daniel Webster and Ada Neff Lehman. The family moved to Harrisonburg in 1921, where his father was an early faculty member at Eastern Mennonite School, and Harold grew up in the Park View neighborhood. He received a two-year college degree at EMS and began his teaching career at the age of 18 in Rockingham County Public Schools, first at Caplinger School in Criders, and then at Fulks Run. In 1942, he completed a bachelor’s degree through summer course work at Madison College and one year at Bridgewater College.
Harold was a member of Civilian Public Service from 1942 to 1946, serving in Galax, Va., at a mental hospital in New Jersey, and at the Vineland Training School for mentally disabled children and adults in Vineland, N.J. Harold and Ruth were married on Dec. 30, 1944, at her home in Lancaster County, Pa., and returned to Park View in 1946, where they raised four sons. Between 1946 and 1967, Harold held several positions at Eastern Mennonite College and High School, teaching physical education and high school courses in English and American history (1946-56), as director of the high school (1956-62), and as college registrar (1962-67). During this period, he also completed a master’s degree at Penn State University and received a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Virginia in 1961. In 1967, he joined the Department of Secondary Education at Madison College (later James Madison University), where he taught until his retirement in 1986.
Harold was active in the Human Relations Council during the years of school integration in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. As part of the Conrad Grebel lecture series, sponsored by the Mennonite Board of Education, he authored “In Praise of Leisure” in 1973. He also wrote a 50th anniversary history of Laurelville Mennonite Church Center (“Where There is Vision”) in 1993 and a 50th anniversary history of Park View Mennonite Church, where he was a longtime member, (“Through These Doors”) in 2003. In retirement, he and Ruth did voluntary service in Birmingham, England, helping to compile a history of new religious movements. He was an avid tennis player, taking part in a weekly tennis foursome until he was well into his 80s. He maintained his inquisitive nature and his love of learning until his death, gladly reading every book and magazine that he was given or lent.
Harold is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Jackie Lehman, Daniel and Barbara Lehman, David Lehman and Jan Harmon, and Larry Lehman and Jane Gatewood; five grandchildren, Susan (and Matt) Bouchonville, Hadley (and Brett) Bachman, Benjamin Lehman, Michael (and Melissa) Lehman, and Christian Lehman; three great-grandchildren, Zachary and Emily Bouchonville and Avelea Bachman; and three brothers, Paul (and Erma) Lehman, Mark Lehman, and James (and Connie) Lehman. In addition to his wife, Ruth, he was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Lehman, and a sister-in-law, Pauline Lehman.
Local family members will receive guests at McMullen Funeral Home on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, from 7 until 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2:30 p.m. at Park View Mennonite Church with the Revs. Phil Kniss and Paula Stoltzfus officiating. Burial will be held privately at Weavers Mennonite Cemetery.

Lehman, Harold Daniel, 98, of Harrisonburg, Rockingham Co., VA died August 25, 2019 at the same place. He was born January 26, 1921 at Millersville, Lancaster Co., PA to Daniel Webster and Ada (Neff) Lehman. On December 30, 1944 at Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA he was married to Ruth Miller Krady, who was born July 27, 1921 and died May 1, 2012.
Surviving are children, Kenneth and Jackie Lehman; Daniel and Barbara Lehman; David Lehman and Jan Harmon; and Larry Lehman and Jane Gatewood; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Paul (and Erma) Lehman; Mark Lehman; and James (and Connie) Lehman.
A sister, Elsie E. Lehman preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held October 6, 2019 at Park View Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, VA with burial in Weavers Mennonite Church Cemetery, Harrisonburg, VA.
Lehman, Hunter Douglas
July 24, 1998 - December 29, 2019
Hunter Douglas Lehman, 21, of Ephrata, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born in Ephrata to Douglas M. and Jennifer L. (Kimmet) Lehman.
He attended Faith Journey Church, Denver.
Hunter worked for the family business, Lehman Concrete. Hunter enjoyed playing volleyball and football, hunting, snowboarding and socializing with friends. He especially loved the Lord.
In addition to his parents, Hunter is survived by three siblings, Trenton, husband of Olivia (Beiler) Lehman of Lititz, Morgan and Connor Lehman, both at home; maternal grandparents, Carl and Nancy (Good) Kimmet of Ephrata; paternal grandparents, Mary Jane, wife of the late Mark Lehman of Denver; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his girlfriend, Lauren Sabol of Lititz.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2020, from 5 to 8 PM at the Hinkletown Mennonite Church, 2031 Division Highway, Ephrata. An additional visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 10 to 11 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM with Pastors Glenn Sauder, Jared Weaver, Kenny Grube and Dan Showalter officiating. Interment will be private in the Hinkletown Mennonite Cemetery.

Lydia J. Lehman, 88, of LaGrange, IN died March 27, 2019, at her residence.
Mrs. Lehman was born on February 5, 1931, in Sumner County, KS to Joe A. and Mary (Miller) Miller.
On February 7, 1952 in Topeka, IN she married Manas M. Lehman, Jr.; he survives in LaGrange, IN.
Mrs. Lehman was a homemaker and member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving along with her husband are seven daughters, Esther (Levi) Yoder of Millersburg, IN, Irene (Ernie) Chupp of Nappanee, IN, Mary Lehman of Shipshewana, IN, Rosetta (Mel) Fry of LaGrange, IN, Suella (Ervin) Miller of LaGrange, IN, Ida Mae (Ervin) Hochstetler of Bourbon, IN, and Lena Hirschy of LaGrange, IN; six sons, Ervin Jay (Elizabeth) Lehman of Leesburg, IN, Calvin Lehman of LaGrange, IN, Daniel (Rose Ellen) Lehman of Topeka, IN, Orla (Rose) Lehman of LaGrange, IN, Clarence (Christina) Lehman of LaGrange, IN, and David (Crystal) Lehman of Howe, IN; 48 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 23 step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence (Lydia Mae) Miller of Chouteau, OK; a sister-in-law, Amanda Miller of Chouteau, OK; and a brother-in-law, Albert Mullet of Millersburg, IN.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 9:30 am at the family residence (2020 N 450 W, LaGrange, IN). Bishop Harry Wayne Miller and home ministers will officiate the services.
Burial will follow in East Barrens Cemetery in Shipshewana, IN.
Visitation will be held at the family residence on Thursday, March 28, 2019, after 2:00 pm and all day on Friday, March 29, 2019.
Lehman, Kathryn Sue Yelton
May 27, 1937 - December 8, 2019
Kathryn Sue Lehman, 82, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday afternoon December 8 at her home while surrounded by her family.
Kathryn Sue (Yelton) Lehman was born May 27, 1937 to Franklin and Marguerite (Walden) Yelton in Hazel Dell, Illinois. She married Joe Lehman on June 19, 1955 at Emma Mennonite Church and moved to LaGrange County in 1955 where she would live the remainder of her life.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Laurinda “Laurie” (Steve) Sherck, Julia (Robert) Rubinstein, Beverly Elliott all of LaGrange County; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, three sisters, Lenora Johnson, Shirley (Bob) Fleming, Sonja Yelton and brother, Jeffrey (Ronda) Yelton. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Michael Yelton.
Kathryn met her husband while singing with her sister, Lenora, and they formed a music group along with Lloyd Miller, which performed with the Red Cross, at VA hospitals all throughout the Chicago land area in the mid 1950’s. She loved traveling and seeing the beauties of nature and except for her home on Emma Lake, Colorado was her favorite place.
Kathryn was a quiet compassionate stay at home mother, Sunday school teacher and church custodian until she and her husband, Joe, opened Lehman’s Music and Ice Cream Parlor in 1980. Lehman’s Music eventually moved to Lagrange. She loved music and gave guitar and bass lessons at their store. Kathryn and her husband continued their love of music throughout their lives and she played bass with the Emma Town Singers for
over 30 years.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, December 11 at Emma Church, Topeka. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 12, also at the church. Pastor Gene Hartman will conduct the services. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange. Memorial contributions may be given to Heart to Heart Hospice or Menno Clinic.
Lehman, Mary H. Miller
January 28, 1941 - June 24, 2019
Mary H. Lehman, 78, of Middlebury, passed away peacefully at home after a lengthy battle with cancer at 8:58 pm on Monday, June 24. She was born on January 28, 1941 in LaGrange County, to Henry N. and Molly (Bontreger) Miller. On October 15, 1964 in Middlebury, she married Andrew D. Lehman, he survives.
Survivors in addition to her husband are four sons, Henry (Ada) Lehman of Goshen, David (Karen) Lehman, Calvin (Martha) Lehman, Dannie (Lora) Lehman all of Middlebury; daughter, Carolyn Helmuth of Goshen; 24 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard (Ruby) Miller of Middlebury, Elmer (Marilyn) Miller of Goshen, Samuel (Mary Ellen) Miller of Middlebury; two sisters, Ida Lambright of Topeka, Susie (Freeman) Yoder of Middlebury; 185 nieces and nephews and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Galen Helmuth; brother, Melvin Miller; sister, Anna Miller; brother-in-law, Harley Lambright.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Visitation will be after 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 25 and all day Wednesday, June 26 at the Dannie Lehman residence, 11770 W. 250 N., Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Thursday, June 27 also at the Dannie Lehman residence.
Services will be conducted by Bishop Norman Miller and the home ministers.
Burial will be in Naylor Cemetery, Shipshewana.

Willis A. Lehman, age 80, of Nappanee, died unexpectedly at 5:10 pm, Friday, July 26, 2019 at Elkhart Meadows after a brief illness. He was born September 4, 1938 in LaGrange to Amos and Emma (Miller) Lehman. On April 9, 1959, he married Freida Helmuth in Nappanee.
Mr. Lehman was a lifetime resident of Nappanee. He had worked at Beer & Slabaugh for over 50 years and at SMART Cabinetry for 3 years. Mr. Lehman was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Mr. Lehman is survived by his wife, Freida; sons, David (Rhoda), Nappanee, Ora Dean, Elkhart, Mark Allen, New Castle; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Eli (Irene), Milford, Herbert (Joan), Glen (Thelma), Roman (Deb), all of Nappanee; and sisters, Laura Mae Borkholder, Betty (Dale) Troyer, both of Nappanee. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Willis Ray and Benji Lehman; and brother-in-law, Jacob Borkholder.
Family and friends may call after 2, Saturday, July 27, 2019 and all day Sunday, July 28th at the Myron Lehman residence, 24510 CR 54, Nappanee. Wilma Fern Lehman, 90, passed away on September 20, 2019 at Riverside Village, Elkhart. She was born on May 26, 1929 to Clarence and Bertha (Christophel) Lehman. She grew up on their farm in Harrison Township, Elkhart County and was baptized in her youth at Yellow Creek Mennonite Church. Although she spent her adult life in institutional care and group homes, she will be remembered for her strong and engaging personality.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Verl Lehman; her sister, Eva Myers; and foster nephew, Harold Mumaw. Survivors include eight nieces and nephews, Jean (Samuel) Moyer, Ruth Ann (Jared B.) Yoder, David (Dianne) Lehman, Dennis (Anita) Myers, Glenda (Samuel) Ascencio, all of Goshen; Larry Lehman, Salem, IN; Carol (John Kampen) Lehman, Cincinnati, OH; Sharon (Dave) Birkey, Austin, Texas; and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 10 am on Saturday, September 29 with an 11 am service following all at the Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home in Goshen. Burial will be at the Yellow Creek Cemetery. Melvin B. Leid, 68, of 1015 Ridge Road, Shippensburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at his residence.
Born Friday, February 9, 1951 in Ephrata, PA, he was a son of Lizzie (Burkholder) Leid, of Ephrata, and the late Weaver Leid, Sr.
Melvin was a member of the Blue Ridge Mennonite Church, Carlisle. Melvin was a farmer most of his life, and later was employed by Nolts Power Equipment in Shippensburg.

Lerch, Annabelle L. Stuckey
July 18, 1935 - July 19, 2019
Annabelle L. Lerch, 84, of Goshen, Indiana, formerly of Pocatello, Idaho, and Jackson, Wyoming, peacefully passed away on July 19, 2019. Annabelle was born on July 18, 1935, the daughter of John W. Stuckey and Bertha L. Frey Stuckey.
Annabelle grew up on a farm in Archbold, Ohio, surrounded by many cousins who maintained life-long friendships.
Her interest and aptitude for science began early as evidenced when she won the Archbold Science Fair which earned her the honor of traveling to Oakridge Laboratories and to Washington, DC, where she met Bess Truman.
In an era when most young women did not go to college, she earned a degree in Chemistry from Goshen College in 1957. She was the third woman to earn a Chemistry degree from the college. She earned her Master of Arts in Education from Idaho State University in 1976.
She married Robert D. Lerch in 1957 and they were blessed with four children, Robbin, Laura, Bob and Barbara.
During her professional career she taught Chemistry in Freeman, SD, Las Cruces, NM, and Pocatello, ID. Her love of science and teaching inspired many students, including her four children who all claim her as their high school Chemistry teacher. Along with her husband, she taught National Science Foundation Chemistry and Physics workshops for elementary teachers at Idaho State University.
She received numerous awards that highlighted the inspiring teacher and scientist she was. Among these are Teacher of the Year for Pocatello, Idaho in 1978-79, Presidential Science Teacher Award for Idaho, 1985, American Chemical Society Outstanding Teacher, 1992. She was active in the Idaho Education Association and served as Vice-President in 1981-82. She was awarded a Woodrow Wilson summer fellowship at Princeton University in 1984 and a National Science teacher fellowship at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in 1985.
She was politically active and encouraged her children and grandchildren to be socially conscious and was an early adopter and advocate for environmental care.
Upon retirement from teaching she moved to Jackson, WY. Her love for art, particularly Native American art, inspired her to volunteer as a docent at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. She was voted Volunteer of the Year in 2001 and 2010. Annabelle also used her love of art and antiques to start her own business, Annabelle’s Antiques and Collectables. She also supported the arts in various ways in her communities.
Annabelle and Bob travelled extensively, camping with their children, and in their retirement years, enjoyed traveling internationally with friends and family.
Throughout her life she was active in her church and was a woman of strong faith. She served in various church leadership roles and she shared her beautiful soprano voice in choirs everywhere she lived.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert D. Lerch, and four children, Robbin O’Leary (Mike), Laura Lerch Horst (Randy), Robert A. Lerch (Jennifer) and Barbara Weaver (Mark), eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Allen Stuckey, a sister, Louise Rudo and by many of her cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Orlene Mason.

Longacher, Constance Elaine Brenneman, beloved wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and faithful friend, died peacefully at her home in Park View of pancreatic cancer on Feb. 22, 2019. She was born to Mennonite missionary parents in Dhamtari, India, on Nov. 14, 1936, and moved when she was 4 1/2 to the small town of Hesston, Kan., where her father became the only physician. She graduated from Hesston College (1956) and Goshen College (1958), but spent one fateful semester at Eastern Mennonite College, where she met her husband to be, Joseph Longacher, from Denbigh (Newport News), Va.
They married at Doylestown, Pa., on Dec. 30, 1958, in the home of her Uncle Paul and Aunt Grace Brenneman, surrogate parents while her parents were serving as missionaries in Tanganyika. Following a brief honeymoon in Manhattan, they returned to Harrisonburg, where Joe completed college and Constance taught second grade at Tenth Legion Elementary School. She taught second grade at Baker School in Henrico County the following four years while he attended the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
Following Joe’s one-year internship in Bethlehem, Pa., they lived in eastern Kentucky from 1964-68, the first two in Voluntary Service under Mennonite Central Committee. While in Kentucky, he was a general practitioner and she a full-time homemaker and mother, and they welcomed their first two children. Two more children joined the family after they returned to Richmond. They lived there until he retired from his gastroenterology practice and they moved to Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in 2013.
Constance was the center of their marriage and family life. She was always there for their children, reading to them daily, attending all their school activities, piano recitals, and swim meets, and providing food for their growing bodies, including homemade oatmeal bread (four loaves baked each week for years). As a grandmother, she happily spent time with her grandchildren, even those at a distance, and openly praised their accomplishments with the unique and much desired Indian word “Shabash” (well-done). She also knitted Christmas stockings for members of the family, complete with their names.
Plainspoken and direct, Constance conveyed her Christian faith and convictions clearly, and also will be remembered for her intellect and sense of humor. During their time in Richmond, she was a faithful member of First Mennonite Church, attending regularly, serving as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and serving as an elder many times. While there, she served as a mentor and role model for many younger women. In recognition of her work as chair of the Alternatives to the Military Committee in its Warwick District, Virginia Mennonite Conference awarded her its annual Peace Mug. She was appointed an associate trustee of Eastern Mennonite University in 1996, where she also served as co-chair of the Parents Council and member of the Northlawn Renovation Committee.
Her favorite avocation was reading, especially mysteries and British and German history. She exercised vigorously through daily walking and aerobics, and enjoyed traveling with her family to many national parks as well as overseas. She especially enjoyed trips to the British Isles, India, and China. She was a page in the Henrico County Library system, a tour guide for the city of Richmond, and a volunteer at Virginia Voice, reading for the print handicapped on a special radio network.
Following surgery in 1997 for a malignancy of the sinuses, Constance drove to University of Virginia from Richmond twice weekly for 11 years to volunteer in Dr. Paul Levine’s clinic, receiving an award in 2006 from the American Cancer Society for that contribution.
Constance was preceded in death by her mother, Millie Page Brenneman, and her father, Dr. Fred S. Brenneman. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph W. Longacher Jr.; her children, Deirdre Smeltzer (Sherwyn) of Harrisonburg, Va., Steven Longacher of Corvallis, Ore., Mark Longacher (Lisa) of Castle Rock, Colo., and Karen Minatelli of Alexandria, Va.; six grandchildren, Meg Smeltzer-Miller (Daniel), Claire Smeltzer, Andrew Longacher, Isaac Longacher, Eli Longacher, and Elina Minatelli; and six siblings, Juanita Shenk (Wilbert) of Goshen, Ind., Frank Brenneman (Anne) of Hesston, Kan., Marjorie Roach (Paul) of Pullman, Wash., Myrna Eshleman (Kenneth) of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Lawrence Brenneman (Judith) of Keyser, W.Va., and Barbara Lehman (Daniel) of Columbus, Ohio.
A service of celebration will be held at Park View Mennonite Church, 1600 College Ave. in Harrisonburg, on March 23 at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brenneman-Longacher Math Scholarship Fund at Eastern Mennonite University, or to Mennonite Central Committee.
Looney, Ruth Ann Clingenpeel, age 71, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 in Canon City, Colorado. She was born July 3, 1947 to Robert Dale and Anna Mildred (Kane) Clingenpeel in Louisville, Mississippi. Ruth grew up in North Liberty, Indiana and graduated from North Liberty High School. She married Jimmy D. Looney on March 10, 1979 and spent her years as a homemaker and a loving mother.
One of her greatest joys was attending Skyline Mennonite Church where she knew everyone and greeted them with a smile. She loved waving at the babies in Church and was always there to lend a helping hand. It gave her so much joy to sing Gospel and Country music. Her gentle smile and sweet voice will be missed by anyone who ever knew her.
Surviving along with her husband Jimmy are her sons, Robert (Robin) Pedzinski of Canon City, Colorado and David (Shannon) Pedzinski of Colorado and Florida; daughter Robin (Tim) Cuddie of Texas; grandchildren Joel Rumfelt of Texas, Jason Rumfelt of Mishawaka, Indiana, Vincent Rumfelt of Wisconsin, Robert D. Pedzinski of Bristol, Indiana, Christopher Pedzinski of Pennsylvania, Eric Pedzinski of Canon City, Colorado, Megan Cohee of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kai Pedzinski of Minnesota, Cami Pedzinski of Florida, Crysta Lewis of Texas; Six Great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends who loved her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, Indiana. Pastor Chuck Wotring will preside and burial will follow in Violett Cemetery in Goshen, Indiana. Visitation will be before the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
